Director of Photography - Kyoto Rain

Just finished working on our latest film. The film is far from over as it needs to be edited, but as Director of Photography, my job is done.

I will have to come back in for the colour grade in a few weeks though...

The look I went for was a generally high contrast one, with many highlights and areas of darkness to try to create a look that was both moody and interesting to look at. I also felt that the limited colour palate will allow the audience to concentrate more on the shapes that build up the image rather than the colours that fill it in. This was important to me as the film is full of movement, with many of the characters running, fighting, and falling.

For those who know my previous work, the look may be familiar. These particular images are not from the film itself, but rather a camera set to similar parameters as the Arri Alexa we used on set. The 'look' of the film however, will end up looking similar. Most of the film was done on a built set, with all the lighting built up from scratch, while part of it was on location with some available lighting used.
